There are so many wonderful ways to enjoy pecans, but sometimes the simplest recipes become the favorites. Two recipes we are asked for again and again are our Roasted Pecans and Homemade Candied Pecans. One is buttery and savory, the other sweet and cinnamon-coated — and both are easy to make with just a few ingredients. Whether you are putting out a bowl for guests, preparing something special for the holidays, or simply looking for a delicious way to enjoy fresh pecans, these are two recipes worth keeping close by.

Roasted Pecans

Buttery, lightly salted, and perfectly roasted, these pecans are wonderful for snacking, entertaining, or adding to a charcuterie board.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pound pecan halves (about 4 cups)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Add the butter to a large baking sheet and place it in the oven for a couple of minutes, just until the butter has melted.
  3. Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Add the pecan halves and salt, tossing well to coat.
  4. Spread the pecans into a single, even layer.
  5. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for approximately 15 minutes, tossing the pecans halfway through the cooking time.
  6. Watch them closely toward the end of the baking time, as pecans can burn quickly.
  7. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

Storage

Store in a tightly sealed container or zip-top bag until ready to serve.

Homemade Candied Pecans

Sweet, crunchy, and filled with cinnamon flavor, these candied pecans are always a favorite. They are wonderful for holiday gatherings, gift giving, salads, desserts — or simply eating by the handful!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (1 pound) pecan halves
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Place the pecan halves in a large mixing bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg white and water until well combined and frothy.
  5. Pour the egg white mixture over the pecans and stir until all of the pecans are fully coated.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  7. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the coated pecans and stir until evenly covered.
  8. Spread the pecans onto the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring the pecans every 15 minutes.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet.

Once cooled, the pecans will become wonderfully crisp and ready to enjoy.
